Hello everyone, Pen King Jr. here, co-founder and CEO of Bonding Health. Today, I want to share a deeply personal story about my two wonderful pomskys, Piper and Penny. They have been a source of incredible joy and comfort in my life, particularly in managing my ADHD and anxiety. Words can hardly capture the profound impact these two furry friends have had on me, but I’ll do my best to convey just how much they’ve changed my life.
Piper and Penny, my two pomskys, are almost four years old. Piper’s birthday is August 19th, coincidentally the same as my dad’s, while Penny celebrates her birthday in December. From the moment they entered my life, they’ve been more than just pets—they’ve been family. Their presence has brought me a sense of peace and happiness that I never thought possible.
Living with ADHD and anxiety can be overwhelming at times. The constant mental chatter, restlessness, and moments of intense stress were once regular features of my day-to-day life. However, Piper and Penny have been instrumental in helping me navigate these challenges.
One of the most remarkable things about Piper and Penny is their ability to offer unconditional love. No matter how tough my day has been, coming home to their excited barks and wagging tails always lifts my spirits. Their companionship provides a constant source of comfort, reminding me that I’m never alone in my struggles.
Having Piper and Penny has introduced a structured routine into my life. The responsibility of caring for them—feeding, walking, playing—has given me a sense of purpose and stability. This routine has been particularly beneficial in managing my ADHD, as it helps me stay organized and focused. The simple act of taking them for a walk every morning and evening has become a grounding ritual that sets the tone for my day.
Playing with Piper and Penny is one of the purest forms of joy I’ve ever experienced. Whether it’s throwing a ball in the yard or watching them chase each other around the house, their playful antics never fail to make me smile. This playfulness is a powerful antidote to anxiety. It reminds me to take a step back, breathe, and enjoy the simple pleasures in life.
During moments of high anxiety or when I’m feeling overwhelmed, Piper and Penny have an uncanny ability to sense my distress. They’ll curl up next to me, offering their silent support. Their presence has a calming effect, helping to soothe my nerves and bring me back to a state of calm. It’s like they intuitively know when I need them the most.
Piper and Penny have taught me many valuable lessons about life and happiness. Here are a few that stand out:
One of the most significant lessons they’ve taught me is the importance of living in the moment. Dogs don’t worry about the future or dwell on the past—they live entirely in the present. Watching Piper and Penny enjoy the simple act of playing with a ball has reminded me to savor the here and now, finding joy in the present moment.
In our fast-paced world, it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and forget to appreciate the small things. Piper and Penny have shown me that sometimes the most simple things in life are what we enjoy the most. Whether it’s a belly rub, a treat, or just lying in the sun, they find immense happiness in simplicity. This has inspired me to slow down and appreciate the little things in my own life.
Their unwavering loyalty and unconditional love have been a constant reminder of what it means to care for someone deeply. They don’t care about my flaws or imperfections; they love me for who I am. This has been incredibly grounding and has helped me build more meaningful relationships in my own life.
Piper and Penny have truly changed my life in ways I never imagined possible. They’ve been a source of joy, comfort, and invaluable lessons, helping me manage my ADHD and anxiety more effectively. Their presence in my life has taught me to appreciate the simple pleasures and to find happiness in the present moment.
If you’re struggling with ADHD, anxiety, or just the stresses of everyday life, I highly recommend considering the companionship of a pet. The unconditional love and joy they bring can make a world of difference. Piper and Penny have shown me that sometimes, the most profound changes come from the simplest sources of happiness.
Thank you for taking the time to read about my journey with Piper and Penny. I hope their story inspires you to find joy and comfort in the little things, just as they have taught me.
Warm regards,
Pen King Jr.
